Cabinet—O.M.B. & H.U.D. are billions apart on cuts for ’83. I believe some can be made but not on the scale called for by O.M.B. Lunch meeting on upcoming 2 P.M. Press Conf. Press Conf. went very well. Questions on Poland dominated. Learned a Major Gen. of ours—Dozier by name, was kidnapped in Italy— probably by the Red Brigade. I fear for his life. An interview with Tom Brokaw NBC for tomorrow A.M. A reception for S.S. & wives & then the lighting of the Christmas tree. Dinner here with the Nofzigers & Laxalts. A very pleasant evening.
