Saw Charley Price back from the Belgian Embassy for the holidays. I think that although he likes the job, Carole would like to come home. Made decisions on Energy—to Commerce. And came down in favor of Ann Gorsuch of the E.P.A. budget with a slight nod to O.M.B. She’s a good manager & if money can be saved, she’ll do it. Half hour interview for Pub. T.V. to be aired Christmas night. We attended a reception for the people of the Gannett press in the East room. The big reception for Congress & their wives scheduled for 8:30 didn’t take place until 10 P.M. Congress was voting on the farm bill. We won it 205 to 203.
