Talk about ec. statistics—we’re doing well. Inflation for 12 mo’s. through Dec. 1.1%—Housing starts up 13.7% for Dec. & Permits up 171⁄2%.
N.S.C.—some briefing on Iran–Iraq war. Iran has 300,000 men in vicinity of Southern attack.
At noon phoned the Right to Life marchers who were down on the Ellipse in a blizzard like snow storm—already 1 ft. deep. Also called Bob Hawke P.M. of Australia & bet him a cowboy hat against one of theirs on the Americas Cup race.
Upstairs for lunch & got out my diary for 1985—to check on chronological layout of the Iran situation prepared by N.S.C. & Dave Abshire. It sure is helping my memory. Then at 2 P.M. a briefing by Frank C. & Dave for my Mon. session with the Tower commission.
A brief meeting with the V.P. then upstairs for more diary checking which went on til bed time.
