Sent Ambas. Goodby on his way to Stockholm for the continuing European peace talks. He says, strangely enough the Eastern Block Nations are getting bolder & bolder about siding with the West & disagreeing with the Soviets. Had interviews—one with Ann Devroy for U.S.A. & one with Hugh Sidey. George B. & I had lunch in the office. Our Cabinet meeting was uneventful—reports on how we’ve reduced accidents on the job among govt. workers and Dave S. telling us we will come in with about $50 Bil. in cuts for the ’86 budget.

Met our Nobel laureate in chemistry Dr. Bruce Merrifield & then about 8 new members of the W.H. Press Corps. Dropped by a reception for about 70 founders of Citizens for America.
