President Reagan signs the Gas Tax Bill to help finance highway and bridge repairs.
Great Britain’s Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher shuffles her cabinet. Among the new members is Michael Heseltine, who replaces John Nott as Minister of Defense.
Signed the Gas Tax bill, had lunch with the V.P., met with House Repub. leaders. Talked budget with them. Didn’t get any hint of panic & believe we can come up with some saleable ideas. My own unspoken idea is that we should give 2 sets of projections—one if recovery is low say 3% & one if it is at 6% as many economists predict. Cab. Council meeting on possible job or job training measures using Unemp. insurance as the tool. Some pic. taking in the Oval office then upstairs to the gym and thank Heaven Nancy is home. Dinner for new members of Cong. & their spouses.
