President Reagan holds a press conference introducing Elizabeth Dole as the new Secretary of Transportation.
President Reagan meets with Israeli President Navon and his wife.
At the close of a two-day Warsaw Pact meeting in Prague, Czechoslovakia, the Soviet Union and its allies offer a nonaggression pact with members of NATO.
Pres. Navon & Mrs. Navon of Israel arrived. Both very nice. An Israeli Pres. is more ceremonial & is not allowed to compete with the P.M. who is the real head man. Still it was a good meeting & I believe I convinced him we were sincere in our peace effort and still dedicated to Israel’s security. Then another press conf. rehearsal for about 2 hours. 8 P.M. Press conf. started with me introducing Liz Dole as new Sec. of Transportation. Faith Whittlesly Amb. to Switzerland is replacing her in the W.H. Then the conf.—they were blood thirsty but everyone seemed to think “I done good.”
