Ronald Reagan Celebration of Life

A Celebration of President Reagan’s Life

Here at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Reagan Foundation & Institute, we choose not to mourn the death of President Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan, but instead we celebrate their lives. Each February 6th since 2005, the anniversary of President Reagan’s birth, the Reagan Library hosts a celebration of his life at his Memorial Site.  United States Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton places a wreath on President Reagan’s gravesite.

June 5, 2004

President Ronald Reagan passed away at age 93 with his wife and family at his side. On June 7, 2004, his casket came to the Reagan Library and lay in repose in the main lobby. 118,000 mourners from all over the nation and from all walks of life came to pay their final respects, leaving flowers, American flags, and other symbols of their grief at the campus.

Resting In Each Other’s Arms

Nancy Davis Reagan passed away on March 6, 2016. She was laid to rest next to her beloved husband where, at at her eulogy, Ron Reagan told the crowd, “They will look out across the valley. My father will tell her that the lights below are her jewels. The moon and stars will endlessly turn overhead and here they’ll stay, as they always wished it to be–resting in each other’s arms, only in each other’s arms ‘til the end of time.”

The Memorial Site Was Personally Selected by President Reagan

When choosing a site for his Presidential Library, Ronald Reagan fell in love with the vistas from our Simi Valley campus. He specifically selected the property's west side for his memorial site. Following his passing on June 5, 2004, President Ronald Reagan was laid to rest at the Reagan Library on June 11, 2004.  Following her passing on March 6, 2016, Nancy Reagan was laid to rest next to her husband on March 11, 2016. The Memorial Site is made of granite and has the following inscription:

I know in my heart that man is good...

January 11, 1989

I know in my heart that man is good... ...that what is right will always eventually triumph and there is purpose and worth to each and every life.
