Paul Laxalt came for lunch. He and I had a good visit. Then Henry K. at 2 P.M. He’s back from a trip to S.E. Asia & elsewhere. He passed on some good info. Phone call came—the Polish Ambas. to Wash. wants asylum now. Al had told me privately he wanted to defect but he was going to continue for awhile providing us with helpful info. Evidently someone got suspicious. We got there before the K.G.B. and he, his wife daughter & son-in-law are safely in our hands.
