Brfng. for King Birendra of Nepal visit. A visit that was most pleasant. There are no great problems between us. The King is an absolute monarch but he is trying to bring democracy to his people & we are trying to help. Went over to the Exec. Bldg. where Lou Lehrman & Jack Hume had about 150 or 200 people gathered who are volunteers in Citizens for Am. They will be Regional directors. It was a morale boost to meet them. I did Q&A & then took a photo with each one. In the afternoon a brief & non controversial meeting on V.A. budget. Then met with representatives of Church & Individual or Independent schools & we planned our campaign to go after tuition tax credits again. Dick Wirthlin came by with some new poll figures. It seems our ratings have gone up. Nancy & I took a photo with W.H Special mil. aides. Then it was State Dinner time for their majesties. A really nice time—entertainment by Ferrante & Teicher—piano duo. Many old friends & interesting people were on hand.
