President and Mrs. Reagan attend a groundbreaking ceremony for the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, CA.
Canada's Progressive Conservative Party, which is lead by Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, wins the country's general election.
Left the S. Lawn 11 A.M.—Marine 1 to Andrews A.F.B. Then A.F.1—Calif. bound—Dick, Patti & Geof. on board with us. Had lunch about 11:30 Calif. time. Then at 1:30 P.M. landed at Pt. Mugu. Helicoptered East into the valley & landed on the valley floor then motored up to the building site for the Presidential Library. A crowd of about 400—4 hi school bands in bleachers & the board of the foundation on a dais. Chuck Heston did the pledge of Allegiance & Don Moomaw, the invocation then Bill Smith introduced me. My talk was about 5 min’s. then we took shovels & did the ground breaking. A musical interlude by a choral group & it was over. At the bottom of the hill Nancy & I parted. She’s going to our new house in town & I’m going to the ranch. A beautiful day. She joins me tomorrow. Barney & Dennis & I had dinner then watched the Wash. Red Skins lose to S.F. Then bed time & for me the 1st time to go to bed without Nancy ever at this ranch.
