Left the S. Lawn 11 A.M.—Marine 1 to Andrews A.F.B. Then A.F.1—Calif. bound—Dick, Patti & Geof. on board with us. Had lunch about 11:30 Calif. time. Then at 1:30 P.M. landed at Pt. Mugu. Helicoptered East into the valley & landed on the valley floor then motored up to the building site for the Presidential Library. A crowd of about 400—4 hi school bands in bleachers & the board of the foundation on a dais. Chuck Heston did the pledge of Allegiance & Don Moomaw, the invocation then Bill Smith introduced me. My talk was about 5 min’s. then we took shovels & did the ground breaking. A musical interlude by a choral group & it was over. At the bottom of the hill Nancy & I parted. She’s going to our new house in town & I’m going to the ranch. A beautiful day. She joins me tomorrow. Barney & Dennis & I had dinner then watched the Wash. Red Skins lose to S.F. Then bed time & for me the 1st time to go to bed without Nancy ever at this ranch.
