Up early—taped radio script in Oval O. then out to Marine 1 on S. Lawn & on to A.F.1 at Andrews. Today it’s Macomb Co. in Mich. then Dallas Texas. Home about 8:40 tonite.
Landed at Selfridge Air Nat. Guard Base at Mt. Clemens Mich. It was raining & dreary. A 20 min. drive to Macomb Community College—Warren Mich. In spite of rain many people out on street to see us go by & at the college a big crowd that couldn’t get in but stayed outside in spite of the rain. About 6500 people in the arena. I was introduced by Jack Kemp & again well received—crowd very enthusiastic. Ex Gov. Geo. Romney & wife Ronna on hand. Back to air base & A.F.1—lunch on plane, our guest was Dick Wirthlin. Then a 2 hr. & 50 min. flight to Love Field—a mil. air base in Dallas Texas. Met by Gov. & Rita Clements. A 25 [min.] drive to Mesquite Rodeo center—7000 people in the arena. Gov. introduced Sen. Phil Gramm who introduced me. I entered arena on a Buckboard pulled by 2 horses. Speech warmly received—many so called Reagan Democrats present. Whole affair a great success. Some photos with locals plus State Repub. officials & candidates. Then back to Love field. Should note weather was beautiful—bright sunshine & fairly warm. Back to Love as I said & on way to Wash. I’d been presented with a fine western hat. Dinner on plane. A 2 hr. & 25 min. flight. Arrived on S. Lawn at 8:45 or so. Nancy was upstairs waiting & then we were off to bed.
