GOP ldrshp. to start the day. They have a slightly different set of priorities than I do on what they should be trying to pass before recess but we agree on some of the most important items. Later Okla. patrolman D.C. Russell & his wife came by. He was on motorcycle duty when we were in Okla. City. A crowd of demonstrators created an accident in which he lost his leg. I called him in the hospital & was pleased to see him up & out even though on crutches. We had a ceremony (Rose Garden) about finally getting the Caribbean initiative passed. Went before the Associated Press Board of Directors & did Q&A. Then over to Dept. of Labor to speak to a large auditorium full of employees re the Job Partnership Training Act which went into effect Mon. Ray Donovan has done a great job & has created an esprit de corps that is inspiring to see. Rest of day at desk in the Study.
