President Reagan receives a letter of apology from news anchor Sam Donaldson.
President Reagan meets with the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Mohammed Hosni Mubarak.
Day opened with Nancy leaving for Calif. by way of Mexico City. Then a letter was hand delivered. It was from Sam Donaldson apologizing for his misstatement on Sunday T.V. show & promising to clear the record on next Sundays Brinkley show. That’s enough to make this a red letter day.
Addressed Trade Leaders in East room & then met new appointees to our Export Council in Blue room. After the Issues Lunch it was time for Pres. Moubarak of Egypt. We had a good meeting exploring ways we can break the log jam in the mid-east peace talks. Next week I’ll be meeting with King Hussein Hosni told me privately that Arafat told him he could deliver our 6 hostages to our embassy. I dont know whether he has in mind kidnaping them from their present kidnapers or whether he has a connection.
Late afternoon some photo time—became a life member of the N.F.L. alumni org. also the Green Caps a Vietnam Vet’s. group.
Then it was on to the “Inner Circle” reception at the Wash. Hilton. A big crowd & they made me a life member.
