Key Facts

Our ride and then back to our Madrone thinning. We should finish tomorrow. Called Dave Broder about his column in which he gave me credit for helping get tax reform but that I’d made no effort to reduce the budget deficit. He’s always been very fair. I told him in every budget I’ve submitted cuts in domestic spending—all of which Congress has refused. If I’d gotten the cuts I asked for in ’81 the cumulative deficit ’82 thru ’86 would have been $207 bil. less.
I have a hunch he’ll do something to correct things although I told him I wasn’t asking for anything like that.
