Calls to Nancy Raphel—widow of Ambas. Raphel also his mother. Then to Gen. Wassons widow—not the happiest task but certainly necessary.
Then a ride—Nancy with us I’m happy to say. Lunch on the patio with Barney & Dennis. At 1:30 P.M. Edmund Morris arrived—my biographer. I gave him a tour inside & out then he joined me as I went to where Barney & Dennis were pruning Oaks. He even pitched in a bit before he had to take off.
Before all that I had phoned Robert [Oakley] and asked him to be Ambas. there in Pakistan. He said yes.
We watched Geo. B. in his acceptance speech—he was just great. I phoned him to tell him so.
