Nancy didn’t feel up to riding & especially after a downpour that was like a cloud burst right at noon time. Then it cleared & I had a good ride in sunshine & a dip in the pool. Sunday (today) watched the Sunday talk shows. Virtually all of them dealt with the lynching Sens. Kennedy, Metzenbaum & Biden are attempting in the Sen. Committee confirmation meeting of my appointee Supreme Ct. Justice Rhenquist to be Chief Justice. They are almost unprecedented in their savage attacks. Back at the W.H. but soon Nancy will be on her way to N.Y. for several days—[. . .]
