We helicoptered to Galway where the Mayor made me an honorary citizen. Then the U. gave me an honorary degree. It was Galways 500th anniversary. Midway in my speech it began to rain & hail & I told them I was cutting the speech to what they’d heard & we thanked them & said that’s all. Back to Ashford Castle where we were met by the Mayo county council. We went inside—I taped my weekly radio broadcast, then met with a group of Am. business execs. who have plants in Ireland.
