Met with Botha—F. Minister S. Africa. Then with the F.M. of Romania. An N.S.C. meeting with Lebanon on the table. Latest message from Habib does not sound good although he said to make no decision for a few days. Begin was more flexible then Assad of Syria (bolstered by Soviets) Habib going to Saudi Arabia to see if they’ll lean on Assad. Sometimes I wonder if we are destined to witness Armageddon. Anne D. arrived to spend the night & go with Nancy to be her maid of honor when she christens a Navy ship. Nancy is scared she wont be able to break the bottle. Anne is quite a girl.
