A brief session in the office for N.S.C. briefing etc. Learned one of the 3 murdered in Beirut is one of the 6 hostages we’ve been trying to get freed for almost 2 yrs. Unconfirmed reports had it that Kadhafy had been trying to buy them from the kidnappers so he could use them against us.

Then we were off to N.Y. to do a fundraiser for Sen. Al D’Amato. I’m told it raised $1.3 mil. The streets from the Helo pad to the Waldorf were lined with people & I’ve never seen them so enthused. Of course it was the result of our attack. The same thing was true of the people in the Ballroom. One Rabbi told me I was the greatest man since Moses. We didn’t stay for lunch. After my speech we were on our way back to Andrews A.F. base where I met Nancy and we helicoptered to Camp David. The weather was beautiful for a change. Ran my old movie—“Winning Team.”
