President Reagan meets with Secretary of Transportation Elizabeth Dole to receive a check for $1.575 billion for the privatization and sale of Conrail.
Stock prices rocket on Wall Street.
Stop by the Dr. for a look at my nose—clean bill of health. Staff meeting—very short. N.S.C.—report on brkfst. meeting with Sec’s. Weinberger & Shultz. They have differences regarding arms talks but nothing that cant be worked out.
At 11:35 A.M. Intel. Board came by with an interim report on Iran. On their own they were overseeing the “intelligence” situation. Then a little ceremony in the Roosevelt room with Eliz. Dole. She presented me with a check for $1,575,000,000.00 the purchase price we got for selling Conrail.
A lunch with more donors to the Presidential Library. A very enjoyable time with old friends & new.
Geo. S. came by for his Fri. meeting. He has some ideas about a new approach to the foreign debt problem—3rd world countries & our Latin Am. neighbors who owe so much it’s doubtful they can ever pay it back.
Wound up the day with a Rose Garden reception for U. of Indiana Basketball Team—new NCAA Champs.
