A signing ceremony for Proclamation on Afghanistan day. Several Afghan’s present. A pleasant lunch with about 25 of our former regional campaign directors. Then a meeting with George S. Again we are talking about strategy in coming meetings with Soviets. Word that Max Kampelman is in G.W. hospital with a mild heart attack. I called him from Camp D. Before leaving for Camp an interview with Trude Feldman. Took a lot of homework with me—energy report & report ’87 on Soviet arms.
