Key Facts
President Reagan makes a Radio Address to the Nation on the legislative agenda for the 100th Congress.
President Reagan spends the day at the White House doing homework.
No Camp D. We cancelled on a weather threat that made it possible the helicopters couldn’t make it. Right now the weather looks fine. A quiet day—homework, reading & of course the radio program. I tried to correct the current demagoguery that we had reduced spending on Ed. & the Drug program. Actually the Fed. Govt. is only 7% of Ed. funding & because of transfer of funding resources to the state & local govt’s. spending for ed. is up about $10 Bil. As for the drug program—the Demagogs are proving once again that figures may not lie but liars figure. Last year—no this year—we added several hundred mil. $ to the budget for one time purchases of radar balloons, planes, helicopters and such. In fact some of that money will still be spent next year. Actually the budget for the ongoing anti-drug process is greater in ’88 as it has been each year since 1981.
