President Reagan receives word that a C-130 National Guard plane crashed off the Honduran coast while on a training mission with the loss of 21 men.
Jim Baker was unanimously OK’d by the Sen. Comm. which will recommend the Sen. confirm him as Sec. of the Treasury.
A C-130 Nat. Guard plane on a training mission has crashed off the Honduran Coast—apparently 21 men dead. Storm prevents getting at wreckage which is under water.
Miss America & her family came by. Very nice people & she is a lovely young lady. Had interviews with Helen Thomas U.P.I. & Mike Putzel of A.P. Then lunch with directors of inaugural comm. It was fun hearing some of their adventures. Rt. now they are working to institutionalize the preparations so in the future inaugural committees will have access to plans & not have to start from scratch—: such things as 350 buses to carry people to the Inaugural balls from their hotels.
Met with Sherpa team to start planning for May Ec. Summit in Bonn Germany.
A meeting with Geo. Shultz & Bud and then upstairs for some homework.
