Diary Entry - 01/19/1982

Key Facts
A one-day general strike in India, called by eight national trade unions to protest the labor policies of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, halts industry and public services throughout the country.
Most of the day was spent in preparing for the 2 P.M. press conference. It’s always an experience to walk into the East room jammed to the walls with the press corps. The questions covered a wide range. I’d been told they were surley and wanted blood. I think it was my day though. I did about 6 tapings for various groups & causes including a greeting to the armed forces. Was also presented with the Actors Fund medal. This was on tape for the celebration of the Fund’s 100th birthday at Radio City Music Hall. Son Mike called—Colleen’s mother died this morning.
