An easy day—gave Al H. his way on Stoesell as replacement for Bill Clark. Some staff objections on grounds it should be a pol. appt instead of career. I’ve given my word to Al. Met with productivity task force—Bill Simon chairman. Really a high power group—top business people, labor leaders & professionals—assignment—how can we get production going again. Had individual pictures taken—Nancy & me with each member. W.H. Staff. I never knew there were so many. Rumor that Gen. Dozier has been killed—no confirmation.
