The President and First Lady host a State Dinner for the Grand Duke and Duchess of Luxembourg.
The Grand Duke & Duchess of Luxembourg arrived. We had a formal ceremony on the S. Lawn with full military honors. A good meeting & then a warm, wonderful State dinner. Their Royal Highnesses are charming, down to earth people. The entertainment was wonderful—Twyla Tharp & her troop of modern dancers. Everyone was very pleased.
During the day we had a full cabinet meeting & I laid down the charge—we must reduce spending. By the time we got through Cong. had passed $114 Bil. increase for ’85. I’ve told our people not to spend it.
