More desk work—Nancy not much better & now back at the White House. Al Haig called. Jack Anderson had a column set to go that I was about to fire Haig—quoting an unnamed W.H. source. I called Jack told him it was false—he graciously agreed to pull the column & quote me instead—that Al was the best Sec. of State we’ve had in a long time. Of course he wouldn’t reveal the W.H. source.
