Diary Entry - 09/29/1982

Key Facts
President Reagan participates in a photo opportunity with Debra Sue Maffett, 1982 Miss America from Santa Cruz, CA.
U.S. Marines begin arriving in Beirut, Lebanon to join the reconstituted international peacekeeping force.
Left 11:40 A.M. for Richmond Va. with Cong. Paul Trible, cand. for U.S. Sen. Before leaving met Miss America, a Calif. girl by way of “Cut and Shoot” Texas. She flattered me by presenting a card from “Man Watchers Inc.,” making me an awardee of “Well Worth Watching.” The Rally at Richmond was heartwarming—over 5000 many of them young people—(not the most traditional thing at Repub. Rallys). Then a fund raiser reception for Paul and presented a “grant in aid” to the Pres. of Hampton Inst. Then individual photos back at the W.H. with 130 members of Congress. A wonderful “old time” meeting dinner here with the Smiths, Wicks, Wilsons & Annenbergs—the Annenbergs 31st Wedding Anniversary. They & the Wilsons are overnighting with us.
