President Reagan meets with the President of the Republic of Finland Mauno Koivisto.
Turned out to be an easy day. After staff & N.S.C. meeting—the latter had our Ambas. to S. Africa as visitor. He brought us up to date on S. Africa’s effort to changed Const. & give full equality to the “Colored” population. Also on efforts to get Cubans out of Angola. Then over to meeting of the I.M.F. & World bank. I addressed them & was well received. Back to the W.H. for meeting & lunch with Pres. Kovisto of Finland. He’s a fine man & I have a better understanding of Finland’s relationship to the Soviets. They have signed a neutrality pact but Finland has not given up it’s independence. Was supposed to spend afternoon revving up for a press conference. That has been postponed so I caught up with some calls & mail then went upstairs in mid afternoon. Nancy is still bedded down battling a stubborn cold. Tonite I’ll go alone to the Howard Baker dinner fundraising for the Sen. Campaign Committee. It was a big success & Henry K. as Toastmaster was very funny.
