President and Mrs. Reagan attend a private dinner party a Betsy Bloomingdale's home.
A grey day—at least to start with. Time after breakfast for reading the P.D.B. & some desk work. Then Geo. Bush came up around 11:30. Ken D., Marlin & some of Georges people. We shot the breeze & then downstairs to a gathering, about 40 of the people who were always the central group in my campaigns here in Calif. Gov. Deukmejian, Pete Wilson & Barbara B. were on hand. We all talked briefly to them—enlisting their aid. Maureen was with them. Then into the ball room for the big rally—a few thousand or so. Everything went well, a number of celebrities on hand. Bob Hope was a smash. Then Pete, Deuk, George & I spoke to them.
Lunch about 1:30—alone. Nancys over at the new house. Then Sam & Pearl came & cut my hair & did my nails. A photo with Doug Gamble who has been most helpful to me on humorous material for things like Gridiron. Back to more desk work.
Nancy rejoined me & then 7:15 we were off to Betts Bloomingdales for a most enjoyable dinner with about 30 long time friends. Back to hotel about 11 P.M. & to bed.
