The President and First Lady celebrate the First Lady's birthday.
Happy Birthday Nancy! Staff time a discussion of Judge Bork and plans of those who are creating trouble for him—Ben Hooks of N.A.A.C.P. for example. We’ll get Bork confirmed to Supreme Ct. but it will be a battle with left wing ideologs.
N.S.C.—update on Persian gulf, Korea & Gorbachevs attempt to make changes in Soviet govt.
Then over to convention center to address Kiwanis Club 72nd annual convention. A crowd of better than 10,000. Spoke on the Ec. Bill of Rights—extremely well received. Back at W.H. for Issues lunch—always a pleasant chore. Then did some letters & with schedule clear for rest of day went upstairs. Nancy out to lunch with her staff. Read some of my diary—Early 1986.
