President Reagan meets with Philip Habib, Special Representative to the Middle East.
President Reagan travels to Mississippi to participate in a reception for the major donors to the Mississippi Republican Party.
The US. Supreme Court rules that employers must treat male and female workers equally in providing health benefits for their spouses.
Met with Habib & Dick Stone. Habib’s was kind of a final sum up on where we are in the Middle East. Dick is going to Central Am. & try to meet with the El Salvador bandits to see if they’ll meet with the El Salvador Peace commission to discuss a pol. settlement. He has to do this to appeal to the hard heads in Congress who are trying to dictate foreign policy. Met with an airline capt. & wife who landed a plane safely after a prop flew off & pierced the fuselage locking all controls. Also an air controller & wife. He had talked the flaming plane down to Cinn. airport from 33,000 feet. Pilot gives him credit. Addressed graduates of Cong. Page school. On to Jackson Miss.—a reception (fund raiser) had pic. taken with each of about 100 people. Then a late afternoon buffet—for Trent Lott at their Coliseum a crowd of thousands. Program went on before the dinner—we left for Wash. An enthusiastic crowd Trent, Thad Cochran Sen. & Congressman Webb Franklin & Gov. candidate all on program. Well received. Back to rainy Wash. & the W. H.
