A really busy day with only a pause for lunch with George B. whose birthday it was. Rcv’d. new Ambassadors including the one from Nicaragua. Signed proclamation making July 17 POW/MIA recognition day. That was the date 16 yrs. ago J. Denton was shot down—he spent 8 of those years as a P.O.W. A reception at the W.H. for Repub. Nat. Comm. and the day was over.
