President Reagan meets with James C. Fletcher, Administrator-designate of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and his family.
The President and First Lady host a luncheon to present the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Swore in Jim Fletcher as new Director of N.A.S.A. I think morale will be restored there among the people. A lot of piled up desk work & “judge phone calls” etc. Then a wonderful Medal of Freedom lunch—7 recipients—Red Blaik, Vermont Royster, Dr. Sabin, Gen. Ridgewater, Barry Goldwater, Helen Hayes & Walter Annenberg.
Later in afternoon photos on S. Lawn with 13 children from a school, selected for photos—an article on me or by me for Parade Mag. Then a taping for 7 events & finally a wonderful warm time—a dinner with the Annenbergs, the Wicks & Ted Graber.
