Dropped by a brkfst. here in W.H. for Dem. Cong. leaning toward support of M.X. I spoke briefly & left briefing to Bud MacFarlane. Then over to Cab. room for meeting of bi-partisan Cong. leaders. Briefed them on China—then took up Central Am. I think we have their support but a tough battle lies ahead. Had a short meeting with International Olympic Comm. Pres. Juan Antonio Samaranch. Soviets have just released a statement they wont come to Olympics. We had a lunch in the St. Dining Room observing the 100th B.D. of Pres. Harry Truman. His daughter Margaret was there. She’s quite a lady & I like her very much. Later in day spoke on Central Am. to the Council on the Americas meeting at the State Dept. Ended day with a brief meeting with Lyn N. & Frank Donatelli. They are worried about our confidence among Repubs. So am I.
