The two military men and three civilians convicted of assassinating former President Anwar Sadat are executed.
Income tax day. People actually demonstrating against paying their tax & Dem. Congressmen are demanding that we rescind our tax cuts or at least part of them. Flew out to Chi. Spoke to 15,000 Catholic Educators. Announced our plan to ask Cong. for a tuition tax credit. Was enthusiastically received. A few peaceful, peace demonstrations—like 10 out of 15,000. Then went out to Geneva, Ill. and visited an 8th grade civics class at St. Peters School. The kids were wonderful. We did a Q&A. Flew back to Wash. & spent half an hour on the phone with the Pres. Galtiere of Argentina. He sounded a little panicky & repeated several times they want a peaceful settlement of the Falklands problem.
