Staff time spent largely on terrorism & the latest info. Learned only 1 of our mil.—a soldier named Ford was killed. Then Bill Casey, Geo. S., Bill Taft + Admiral Crowe etc. came in for meeting. Our intelligence is pretty final that this bombing was the work of Kadaffy. We have definite info. on other plans—some of which we’ve been able to abort. We discussed targets for retaliation. I’m holding out for mil. targets to avoid civilian casualties because we believe a large part of Libya would like to get rid of the Col.

Later met with Dante Fascell & Bill Bloomfield (2 Cong.men 1 Dem. 1 Repub.) They reported on their meeting with Gorbachev & others in the Soviet U. Nothing new to report—heard much of what we’ve already heard in Geneva.

An issues briefing lunch then, Marine 1 to Baltimore for the Orioles opening day. Me & a 9 yr. old Muscular Dystrophy lad each threw out an opening ball for the game. I threw 2 because my 1st pitch was wild.

Back to the W.H. for a medal presentation to Marine Gen. Caulfield who is leaving W.H. to assume command of a Marine Unit.

Stopped by Drs. Office for a typhoid shot (Bali) & my 9 mo. operation check up.

Dick & Patty & Ted Graber for dinner & so to bed.
