Some talk of Q’s I might get in Cabinet meeting when press would be there for photos etc. Well when time came & they shouted their Q’s. I refused to answer.

Talked also about Cab. members following my lead & being neutral on our Presidential candidates.

Also some discussion of my possible 2 nominees to Nat. Ec. Commission.

N.S.C.—This was briefing for my Sat. meeting with Pres. Miguel de la Madrid in Mazatlan Mexico.

After some desk time I taped my Sat. radio cast—subject, meetings in Mazatlan.

Then lunch—more desk time—I’m still swamped in mail & I must answer. At 2:00 P.M. Cab. meeting—subject budget I’ll send to Cong. More desk time—then a photo session with 26 or so staff of A. B. Culvahouse. He’s concerned about our date with Lucky R. & Archie for reception—his birthday when we come back from Calif. It seems the reception is going to be pushing his book & I shouldn’t do that. Well a few calls & it’s all cleared up. I’ll have them into the Oval O. for tea instead.

Personnel time with Bob Tuttle. Then admin time—Top brass of Masons came in & made me honorary member of Masons, Scottish Rite M’s & Shriners. Then a family photo result of a young girls letter.

Then upstairs—due at dinner—annual Conservative Conf. 7:15 Black tie—I’m the speaker. It all went very well—a receiving line for about 80 people—then into dinner. Speech went well. Smyrnof was very funny.
