Secretary Robert Gates

On Tuesday, November 10th, The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation held an event in Washington, D.C. at the Library of Congress to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. During his keynote address, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates addressed the crowd, stating, “President Reagan understood that erasing the impression of U.S. political and military weakness would ultimately reap diplomatic rewards and strategic breakthroughs. He embraced the importance of military strength, and of speaking blunt truths about the Soviet system and Soviet behavior.”
