Overview
As part of the programming associated with our Dead Sea Scrolls exhibition, please join us for an in-person event with Dr. Joe Uziel, the head of the Dead Sea Scrolls Unit at the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA).
Among other topics, Dr. Uziel will be discussing why the Scrolls on display at the Reagan Library must be changed out every three months, as well as the history of the new 8 Scrolls going on display that week – including the Great Isaiah Scroll. Tickets to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibition are not included as part of this event and must be purchased separately at ReaganFoundation.org/DeadSeaScrolls. The exhibition closes at 5:00 p.m. every day.
After receiving his Ph.D. from Bar-Ilan University in 2008, Dr. Uziel has worked for the IAA, excavating several areas in the City of David and the Western Wall Tunnels, uncovering a range of finds from the Middle Bronze Age through to the Mamluk period. Dr. Uziel’s research has produced many studies on the archaeology of Jerusalem, particularly relating to the Bronze and Iron Ages and Roman period. In January 2020, Dr. Uziel was named the head of the IAA’s Dead Sea Scroll Unit, which is dedicated to the holistic care of the Dead Sea Scrolls, including their conservation, curation, documentation, and research.
