In We Should Have Seen It Coming, Gerald Seib chronicles the astonishing rise, climax, and decline of one of the great political movements in American history—the forty-year reign of the conservative movement, from the election of Ronald Reagan to the Republican Party's takeover by Donald Trump. With behind-the-scenes anecdotes, Seib explains how Trump capitalized on that populist movement to victory in 2016, then began breaking from conservative orthodoxy once in office. This scintillating work of journalism brings new insight to the most important political story of our time.
Gerald Seib has been with The Wall Street Journal since 1978, and has been covering the White House since 1987. In 1988, Mr. Seib won the Aldo Beckman award for coverage of the Reagan White House and presidency. Mr. Seib was part of the team from the Journal that won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize in the “breaking news” category for its coverage of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
