Tevi Troy Joins the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute as a Senior Fellow for the Reagan Institute in Washington, DC
Washington, D.C. — Today the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute announced that Dr. Tevi Troy has been appointed as a Senior Fellow for the Ronald Reagan Institute in Washington, DC. As a presidential historian and a former senior government official, Dr. Troy will be providing thought leadership on the Institute’s policy and academic programs.
Dr. Troy will provide strategic guidance on domestic policy, including economic and education policy, for the Reagan Institute’s Center for Civics, Education, and Opportunity (CCEO) which impacts American society through programs, projects and convenings that address three areas of domestic policy – civics, education, and economic opportunity. Placing America’s future at the center of our work, CCEO develops innovative solutions to ensure a more prosperous future for our country and, as Ronald Reagan put it, “renew the American spirit and sense of purpose.” He will also provide strategic guidance on CCEO’s annual Reagan Summit on Education (RISE), which brings together leaders and key stakeholders in the education community – including members of Congress, leaders in the education sector, scholars, state Governors, business leaders, administration officials, and others – to assess the health of, and address the key issues in education in the United States. He will also be a guest lecturer for the Institute’s education programs.
“Ronald Reagan's intellectual legacy continues to shape the Republican party,” said Troy. “He has given conservatives a great heritage, and it is now my honor to help extend that heritage into the political and academic arenas through my work at the Reagan Institute.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Tevi Troy as a Senior Fellow,” said Roger Zakheim, Director of the Reagan Institute. “With his deep experience on Capitol Hill and at the White House as a policy advisor and director, he will be a great asset as we grow CCEO’s impact and reach into the education community.”
Tevi Troy is a best-selling presidential historian, and a former senior government official.
On August 3, 2007, Dr. Troy was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. As Deputy Secretary, Dr. Troy was the chief operating officer of the largest civilian department in the federal government, with a budget of $716 billion and over 67,000 employees.
Dr. Troy has extensive White House experience, having served in several high-level positions over a five-year period, culminating in his service as Deputy Assistant and then Acting Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy.
Dr. Troy has held high-level positions on Capitol Hill as well. From 1998 to 2000, Dr. Troy served as the Policy Director for Senator John Ashcroft. From 1996 to 1998, Troy was Senior Domestic Policy Adviser and later Domestic Policy Director for the House Policy Committee, chaired by Christopher Cox.
In addition to his senior level government work and health care expertise, Dr. Troy is also a presidential historian, making him one of only a handful of historians who has both studied the White House as a historian and worked there at the highest levels.
Dr. Troy has a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University and an M.A and Ph.D. in American Civilization from the University of Texas at Austin. He lives in Maryland with his wife, Kami, and four children.
